snowflake pretzels

Oh, snowflake pretzels, how I wish you could bring real snow. Each year we get less and less of the pretty stuff, and I, for one, perhaps the only one, love snow. And winter. And fireplaces. For now, I’ll have to make do with chocolate and pretzels.

tips on making chocolate pretzels

Make snowflake pretzel pops for a homemade holiday food gift idea, or to serve at a Christmas party, or even at a Disney Frozen party. Or, just make them with the kids on a snow day, if you ever get those.

Note that here I use bright white candy melts to make these snowflakes. You can substitute white chocolate if you prefer, but I find candy melts to be so user-friendly, I usually stick with those. Candy melts melt more easily and set more quickly.

how to make snowflake pretzels

you will need:*

white chocolate vs candy melts

You can substitute white chocolate for the candy melts, although keep in mind it takes longer to set, and be sure to let it cool longer before transferring it to the decorating bag, as it can get quite hot.

EZ things are optional, but they are useful in thinning candy melts to perfect dipping consistency. You may also use Crisco.

what to do:

Line a baking tray with wax paper and set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, pour 1 cup of candy melts (and a sprinkle of EZ Thins, if using). Microwave at 70 percent power for 90 seconds. Stir and continue to microwave until the candy melts are mostly melted. Stir, using the residual heat to completely melt the candy.

Drop a pretzel in the melted candy, and remove resting on a fork. Bang the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and place on the baking tray.

Sprinkle with the white sprinkles. Candy melts set quickly, so add sprinkles every two or three pretzels. One cup of candy melts should cover about 20 pretzels, or 5 finished snowflakes. Let set well.

Scrape the remaining melted candy into a decorating bag. When ready, reheat the bag in the microwave to melt the candy. (Note that if you are substituting white chocolate, it may get too hot to melt directly in the bag).

Snip the tip and pipe a circle on the baking tray. Set a lollipop stick on the circle and turn to coat. Arrange four finished pretzels on the candy circle. Top with more sprinkles. Let set well.
